Introducing Key Competences for Very Young Learners

Resource:
Learn with Ollie

Presenter:
Ms. Sonya Steven-King

Teaching English to Kindergarten students presents its own set of unique challenges and opportunities. As students develop their linguistic competences, teachers must also strive to help students discover more about themselves and the world they live in. By doing this we can ensure that students grow up with the skills and character required. This presentation will discuss how very young learners learn and the activities and materials that can aid the development of the key competences.
Skills Development for ALL Young Learners

Resource: Cool Kids - Second Edition

Presenter:
Ms. Teress Nguyen

Teaching young learners effectively demands that teachers keep the students engaged and motivated. Teachers need to ensure that a wide variety of activities are used to enable all students to learn and also to make sure that students develop the skills they need for their future. This presentation will highlight the skills that need to be developed and materials and activities that can help to do this.
Independent Learning – Making Homework Fun

Resource: Fun English & Pictionary & ISS Reader

Presenter:
Mr. Stephen Faulkner

Independent learning plays a crucial role in language development. To progress, young learners need to study for a huge amount of time that is just not possible with only classroom based learning. However, with so many potential distractions, persuading children to learn independently can be very challenging.

This presentation will look at how technology can help to overcome this problem and motivate students to want to study independently and have fun doing so.

Using Technology in the 4 C's Classroom

Resource: Sure

Presenter:
Ms. Teress Nguyen

The rapid development of technology is bringing massive change to all sectors of society and education plays a key role in adapting to these changes. Students now need to have both English language knowledge and the key skills of creativity, collaboration, critical thinking and communication. Learners also demand that their educational experience reflects their real life use of technology. This presentation will look at practical applications of technology in the classroom and the benefits it can bring.
Motivating & Inspiring Students with Accelerated Learning Strategies

Resource: Jetstream

Presenter:
Ms. Sonya Steven-King

Accelerated learning involves a variety of techniques and methods designed to speed up the learning process and ‘train the brain’ to receive and retain information more effectively. These techniques can involve kinesthetic activity, memory training, humor, creativity, and promoting a stress-free learning environment. This presentation explores the key principles behind accelerated learning and highlights practical classroom techniques that can easily be adopted.
The Role of Digital Resources in Improving Learning Outcomes

Resource: Reallyenglish

Presenter:
Mr. Ben Porter

To improve in a language, students need a combination of input and output such as practice in class with peers and teachers and independent study at home. The challenge for educators lies in ensuring homework is effective and engaging but does not overwhelm teachers with checking and grading.

Using digital resources (with automated feedback) for homework that focus on developing grammar, vocab, listening and reading skills, frees up teachers to focus on running a communicative classroom and assigning and grading writing tasks.

This presentation will look at how blended learning using digital resources can achieve improved learning outcomes and allow the teacher to better understand their students.
